Starting in Aesch in Basel Country side, we will visit 5 ruins/castles all packed in small area! We would start out west by the vineyards of Vordere Klus and up to the ruins of Frohberg, continue southeast past the ruins of Schalberg and Münchsberg, and onward to the well-preserved remains of castle Pfeffingen. Castle of Pfeiffingen is the best preserved and rest are more like sites of archaeological importance, but still provide a beautiful walk through the woods. Then, finally we will hike along the Muggeberg ridge overlooking the Birs back to the Blarer-Schloss garden in Aesch. The entire hike could be done in a reverse direction as well, as it is a round circuit.
Along the way, we will pass through beautiful vineyards Klus177, and stop by the farmhouse that also has a boarding plan for horses and other animals. Most of these castles were considered to be destroyed during the Basel earthquake of 14th century. Get to know your country side..! Check out the picture gallery.
