A Family Vacation In Switzerland: What To Expect

“A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes

And that’s precisely what has happened to us after an awesome and splendid time we had during our Europe trip.

What is the first thing that crosses our mind when we talk of ‘The Switzerland’? For us, apart from being the dream destination that it is, it was the snow clad mountains, the scenic beauty and of course the chocolates that symbolized this place. But trust me, there is so much more to it and saying is not enough; you need to see it to believe it and I would suggest you must visit this place at least once in your lifetime to experience its beauty and grandeur.

Fortunately, we were connected to Catterfly team through one of our common friends who proved to be a great help starting from planning to executing and during our entire stay.

We spent a good amount of time discussing our further itinerary including what should be seen and how much time needs to be spent at each place.

Thereafter, we left to start our further sojourn and got to experience our first brush with using the local transport. Having used almost all kinds of transport so frequently, must say, we became a pro at it. Not to forget, Switzerland has one of the most amazing transport systems. We would give full marks to the cleanliness, timeliness, speed and efficiency of the trains and buses.

The biggest boon was the location of our apartment in Interlaken which was located just a few meters away from the train station. Within walking distance was the local market, the eateries and a huge outlet of ‘Migros’, the Supermart. The apartment was beautiful and the owners were just so warm. We got our daily supplies from Migros and used to prepare food in the kitchen which was way too well equipped. Mostly, we used to carry our food during the day which kept us, especially the kids, satiated.

Keeping in mind our interests and limitations, Catterfly team had planned our itinerary in such a way that we had the most of everything without over or under doing anything. They made sure that no two mountains are covered on consecutive days. The team apprised us of all the nitti gritties of everything, be it how to spot your train, or the best place to eat, what to and what not to do etc. They were so helpful and was just a phone call away.

The train ride to Jungfraujoch was just awesome. Upon reaching the top, it was snowing and biting cold. But it did not deter our spirits. We did venture out into the snow and had a splendid time.

The tour to the Frey Chocolate Factory was a dream come true. The kids were fascinated to see the whole chocolate making process. There was a separate section for chocolate tasting which we truly relished. The most interesting and intriguing part of the whole day was the chocolate making session where we made chocolates with our very own choice of ingredients. We got to take those chocolates along with us in our self-designed covers too. What an overwhelming feeling.

Fortunately, the weather was in our favor the day we planned our Mt. Titlis trip. The view during the entire journey in the gondola that takes you up was just breathtaking. We had a ball, literally, playing in the snow and enjoying the weather up there. Then there was this Ice Flyer which we reluctantly took but what an experience it was. You are in the middle of the air surrounded by pristine snow all around. Upon our return from above, there was an Indian eatery where we relished some lip-smacking Indian snacks.

The vineyard ride in Lutry, the hand-painted like skies in Lausanne, the countless lakes, the unusual rains, all of this is still and going to be etched forever in our memories.

This was indeed one of our most memorable and unforgettable trips.
