Pichwai (pichvai) is a style of painting that originated over 400 years ago, in the town of Nathdwara near Udaipur in Rajasthan, India. Pichhwai Paintings would literally translate to shadow paintings. It is said that during the Mughal Empire when idol worship was banned, devotees painted the image on cloth and worshiped it. Over a period of time, it emerged as a prominent art form.
Mr Kapil Sharma comes from a very reputed family of Pichwai artists. He is a 4th generation Pichwai artist who mainly works on Canvas and Paper and who is eager to take Pichwai to the larger audience. A fine art graduate, he experiments with different mediums and themes and has taken the family tradition of Pichwai Art ahead.
